પ્રસ્તુત નવલિકામાં લેખિકાએ સમાજનું દર્પણ રજૂ કરીને બે પેઢીઓ વચ્ચેના સંઘર્ષમાં બાળકો કેવા પીસાતા હોય છે, તેનું આલેખન કર્યું છે. આ નવલિકામાં કાન્તાબા પોતાની પૌત્રી સુષ્માની બાળસહજ વેદના જોઈને દુઃખી થઈ જાય છે.
પરંતુ પુત્રવધૂ ઇન્દિરાને ડર છે કે કાન્તાબા પાસે સુષ્મા રહેશે, તો ભણવામાં પાછળ રહી જશે માટે તે સુષ્માને કાન્તાબા પાસે જવાની મનાઈ ફરમાવી દે છે. પરિણામે કાન્તાબાનો સુષ્મા પ્રત્યેનો સ્નેહ નોકરાણીની પુત્રી ફાલ્ગની પ્રત્યે વહે છે.
કાન્તાબાનું સ્નેહસભર શિક્ષણ પામીને તે આગળ વધે છે. જ્યારે સતત દબાણમાં જીવતી સુષ્મા પાછળ પડતી જાય છે. ઘણી વખત સ્નેહ અને ઉષ્માથી બાળકનો ઉછેર વધારે સારી રીતે થાય છે. એ સત્યને અહીં સમજાવાયું છે.
[In this short story the poetess has presented the mirror of the society, how children suffer in the conflict between the two generations. In this story Kantaben becomes unhappy seeing natural pain of her granddaughter Sushma.
But daughter-in-law Indira refuses Sushma to go to Kantaben because she has fear that if Sushma goes to Kantaben, she will not study well. As a result Kantaben’s love for Sushma, flows to maid’s daughter Falguni.
Falguni progresses by getting education through Kantaben and Sushma becomes weak in study in constant pressure of her mother. The truth that love and warmth play an important role in child’s development, is explained here.)
