Find such pairs of prime numbers up to 100.
Solution:
We know that prime numbers up to 100 are:
2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, 31, 37, 41, 43, 47, 53, 59, 61, 67, 71, 73, 79 and 97
Obviously, out of these (except 13 and 31) the required pair of prime numbers having same digits are:
(17 and 71); (37 and 73) and (79 and 97).

Question 4.
Write down separately the prime and composite numbers less than 20.
Solution:
Numbers below 20 are:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19
Since, 1 is neither a prime nor a composite,
out of these numbers,
the prime numbers are: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17 and 19.
Remaining all other numbers are composite numbers.
Composite numbers below 20 are: 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16 and 18.

Solution:
Since prime numbers between 1 and 10 are 2, 3, 5 and 7

(a) 44 = 13 + 31 or 44 = 3 + 41 or 44 = 7 + 37

Which of the following numbers are prime?
(a) 23

(c) 37

(a) 23 = 23 x 1
Factors of 23 are 1 and 23 itself.
Thus, 23 is a prime number.

(b) 51 = 1 x 51 = 3 x 17
Factors of 51 are 1, 3, 17 and 51.
Thus, 51 is not a prime number.

(c) 37 = 1 x 37
Factors of 37 are 1 and 37.
37 is a prime number.

(d) 26 = 1 x 26 = 2 x 13
Factors of 26 are 1, 2, 13 and 26.
