Question 1.
The poet says, “Beauty is heard in …
Can you hear beauty? Add a sound that you think is beautiful to the sounds the poet thinks are beautiful.
The poet, Keats, said:
Heard melodies are sweet,
But those unheard are sweeter.
What do you think this means ? Have you ever ‘heard’ a song in your head, long after the song was sung or played?
Answer:
It is true that we can feel beauty s in whatever we do and wherever we go. The sound of birds chirping and the stream gurgling ate examples of how beauty can be heard. The poet has given other examples such as the wind blowing, the rain falling and the singer chanting. According to Keats, music and melodies that are heard are sweet but those that are imagined and felt are sweeter and have a more powerful impact on us. These tunes are experienced by us for a long time. I have experienced this phenomenon of having heard a song in my head long after that song was played.
