Gujarat: Location, Boundary and Physiography Class 6 GSEB Notes
→ Gujarat State is situated in the western part of India between 20.06’ north latitude and 24.42’ north latitude and between 68.10’ east longitude to 74.28’ east longitude.
→ Gujarat has two types of boundaries:
- Land boundary and
- Sea boundary.
→ Land boundary: Madhya Pradesh is situated to the east of Gujarat, Arabian Sea to the west, Rajasthan to the north, Maharashtra to the south and the country Pakistan is situated to the north-west of Gujarat.
→ The Arabian Sea is on the west coast boundary of Gujarat. This sea boundary is about 1600 kilometres long. There are Gulf of Kutch and the Gulf of Khambhat in the Arabian Sea.
→ The north-south length of Gujarat is about 590 kilometres, while the east-west width is about 500 kilometres. Gujarat has a geographical area of about 1,96,024 sq km which is about 6 % of the total Indian territory. Gujarat is seventh largest state in area in India.
→ The land area of Gujarat is divided into four parts:
- North Gujarat
- Central Gujarat
- South Gujarat and
- Saurashtra and Kutch.
→ There are five physiographic divisions of Gujarat:
- Plains
- Hilly and Mountainous Areas
- Plateaus
- Deserts and
- Coastal Plains.
